I always loved the '69 TA, and I built a clone from a Firebird 350:

Before:

After:

Could you imagine this comparison done with the 2015 Camaro SS or even the Z/28? The differences would be even more stark in comparison.

I had a 2001 WS.6 Trans Am, and performance was almost identical to the 2010 Camaro SS's I raced. We just sat door to door all the way until we got tired of it and let off. Multiple cars/drivers, not just a fluke.

Also, FYI, the driver of that '99 Trans Am in this comparo was a total failure at life. I was pulling absolute crap 60' times (2.3X's!!!) and still ran 14.0/14.1@102.7ish in my WS.6, and I'm much more of a corners guy than a straightline guy.

The times aren't that far off. A buddy of mine used to have a Firehawk, he'd run a best of 13.9 to 14.4, it just depended upon track conditions, heat, tire prep, etc. Trap speed is what tells the real story, and a 101mph trap is accurate for these cars.

In comparison, my old stock Stealth twin turbo would run a 13.8 to 14.5 with traps from 102mph on the high end to 98 on the low end. Typically, the first or second run of the night was the fastest, after that, the intercoolers would heat soak and multiple runs after would get steadily slower.

I believe in the video they did say the 69 was running original size bias ply tires. Though straight line was pretty respectable, today's Camaro and Mustang would easily beat both on a track with left and right turns instead of straight quarter mile track.

101 is absolutely dog slow for a 6-speed ls1 car.

I never realized they were that slow. My SUV beats both of them hands down.

I was pretty surprised by the 14.6 quarter on the '99 Trans Am. I was fully expecting to see a time in the 13's given how much lighter cars were in the 90's compared to today. I guess I remember them having more power than they do.

It's not surprising at all stock. A little exhaust work and tune the QJet and they could get into the high 13s. Of course, the '99 can be tweaked with a little computer work and exhaust too.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 can do 1/4 mile in 10.95 sec @ 127 mph (204 km/h)

and do zero to 60 in 2.95 seconds.
