So, I did a real bonehead thing -- received my new tags for my car, but have no idea where I put the envelope.

Will do one more check around today, but assuming they were accidentally tossed out -- do I have to go to the DMV to have new ones reissued (along with a current registration), and do I have to pay again?

Hoping this is something I can do online, but it probably isn't.

I can't believe I did this! Driving on expired tags now (expired in May), hope I don't get stopped by the police.

Thanks for any help -- I'm in Colorado if anyone can help.

Call the DMV, if that's where you bought them, and ask this question. (In Wyoming it would be the county treasurer's office.)

Denver's info on lost plates is on this webpage:

Lost, Damaged, Stolen License Plates & Placards | Denver County DMV | DenverGov.org Motor Vehicle

All CO counties should be the same. There is a nominal fee, less than $10. You do need to go to your county's DMV. There is a form to fill out. You'll need the most recent registration papers also.

Form is at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/sit...les/DR2283.pdf

This would be better posted in the state forum of whatever state you live in since laws vary by state. This isn't really a general "automotive" question.

all you need do is head down to the DMV office, and show them your current registration and they will replace the lost tags for a nominal fee. what that fee is depends on what state you live in.

In my state I would fully expect to get reamed for something like this. Let us know how it works out, OP.

And this is helpful to me how? I don't recall reading where this type of question is against the rules.

And BTW -- if you had read my post, you would know the state I'm in as I clearly stated where I live.

It's not that it's against the rules, it's just you would probably have better luck posting into your local forum, as they are more familiar with your local rules/laws/regulations. If the point of your post is to get an answer, you want to post it in the place where you will get the "best" answer.
