Yep, if normal people proactively take care of their cars then it will last a long time. The trouble is that people really don't do a good job at it. It's the same reason that dentists still have jobs, if everyone brushes their teeth properly why would we need dentists.

So, why blame American companies for the problems caused by people not properly maintaining their cars? (not directed at you specifically).

Any why blame German companies for the same thing? People skip German car maintenance because it is so expensive, and of course you will have failing parts and random problems?
