I never idle. At long lights, I turn off. Im very particular about the way I break my machinery in too . . . Long idle time does not fit into any equation

That said, salesmen will often idle a car because some issues only manifest when the car's still cold (ticking engines, funky transmission shifts, etc.)
Me, I let my car idle if it's a hot day and I'm sitting outside. It's called trying to not cook in summer heat.

Yep. I rarely drive a car anymore, but when I have to, there are two lights on my route home that can be over 5 minutes in some circumstances. Im not going to let the car idle for that long. Might be stupid, might be unnecessary, but Im an oldie and that's what old people do -- hang on to what they learned 40 years ago and never change, lol
In some areas there is a tendency for a Traffic signal needs to complete a cycle whether there is any cars moving or not...then agin have seen where a road sensor would cut the signals time short moving traffic right along...matter of adjusting the workings.

Alot of times starting it before hand, can will hide any problems that can be covered up after a 30 sec or 1-2 minutes of idling. On my 2012 Impala, the dealer started it from the back and brought it to me up front both times and when I bought the car, I noticed after the second day, this weird type of exhaust noise on the car that lasted the 1st 5-10 seconds when you start the car and then goes away. I took it to the 3 different dealers and they said they couldn't replicate it and it hasnt went away to this day and I even see TSB's for it on the 2014 Impala's as well.
If I actually was able to go in the back lot and start the car myself and heard that noise I would have never bought it. So some dealers starting a car for you can be a kind gesture or covering up an intermittent issue that will get worse with time.

If you say so why make life complicated or in other words who cares , like people really think to them self why Is that car running while it's parked .

I am old too, but I would have never done such thing. In some places you would just block the traffic when the light changes to green before you start the car.
