We happened to catch a new show on Discovery called Cuban Chrome and found it fascinating, if you are into either old classic cars, or history and international politics, or both. The resourceful Cubans have managed to keep 1950s cars running for over 60 years, putting boat diesel engines in them, manufacturing their own parts, or welding in parts from other makes. That's something we knew about but now with the lifting of the embargo filming and interviews with residents are allowed, making it much more interesting and visual.
You need to remember that you're watching a show, it's not 100% real. Parts for these cars are available in Cuba, these guys just don't want to pay for them. The parts are made in the USA, shipped to Mexico and then to Cuba. By Cuban standards, they would be expensive but they are available.
Most all of the reality shows are faked. Take Alaskan Bush People. These guys are making a fortune with this show. They did not build their house, they don't even live in it. They live in Hoohan at the lodge. They also will be on trial in Alaskan courts for falsifying documents that had the Alaskan Gov't cutting checks for 13 grand to them. Most of these shows are scripted. That should tell you how valid they are. Some of the car shows you get to see a real sweet restored car but in reality, all you see is a nice paint job. Most are still junkers that you wouldn't drive across the street. Remember seeing Bob Ross art show on PBS? Ever seen one of his paintings in person? Looks great on TV. Looks like a child did it in person. It's not what you think it is when watching any TV media including the news.
after about 20 minutes of the first episode i knew it was not a show i would never watch again .. when they were working on the steering box of an old car and found it needed a bearing .. they went out and bought a U joint ...
I saw the same thing, lower steering bearing and they're replacing the U-joint !!!!
The same thing in a since is here, all their money goes to their cars and they forfeit eating and housing !!!!
