I feel safer driving 75 mph on I-75 than driving 25 mph in my subdivision. You never know when someone is going to drive thru a stop sign or a kid will run in the street chasing a basketball.

I agree with this. In one of our neighborhoods, people speed and there are always kids playing, riding bicycles, and there's a kid who jets around on his dirtbike. I feel safer driving on the interstate and not having to worry about any people coming out of nowhere. Just have to look for animals (which is unlikely) and look far ahead to make sure everything looks normal.
In our other neighborhoods, most of the people who live there are elderly and have lived there the majority of their lives, so there isn't much to worry about.
AAA is great insurance to have. I think a 100 mile policy is $150/year. Maybe cheaper. Well worth it once you have older vehicles.
