Great topic! I'm looking for a new car right now, so everyone's answers are really helpful.

Which car brand is your daily driver?
Geo Prizm, which was not listed, so I voted "Other."
Which brands do you like?
We also have had two Honda Accords, and I have loved them both. We still have our '87 Accord LX.
Which brands have you had trouble with?
Volkswagen Beetles, but they were both older with high mileage when I bought them.
What do you like about your brand? (Safety, tech., efficiency, design etc.)
The Geo is a great car - fun to drive, easy to park and low maintenance. The Honda is comfortable and good-looking with a smooth ride and is also low-maintenance.
Do you wish to own a certain brand one day?
I would love another Accord, but they've gotten too big. Here in the city, parking is difficult, and it's an advantage to be able to squeeze into the tight spaces that the SUVs, pickups and big sedans have to pass up.

I would also love a Honda Fit or a Toyota Corolla, but there's not enough head/leg room for my very tall husband. I've had to nix some very good brands because of that. Even Mercedes and Audi's smaller cars don't have the room.

The Nissan Leaf is the right size and intrigues me because of its high tech features, but my husband isn't willing to go all-electric. I'm hoping to talk him into a Ford C Max hybrid. A friend of mine has a '95 Ford Contour that's been nothing but trouble, so I'm a little bit nervous about buying anything with the Ford badge on it.

Also in the running are the Mazda 3, the Hyundai Elantra and the Subaru Impreza.

Did you buy your car new or used?
The 1987 Honda Accord was a dealer demo, so technically it was used. The 1993 Geo Prizm was bought new.

Since we only buy new cars about every 20 years or so, I think it makes more sense to buy new. Besides, I'm 66 and Mr. Bay is 75, so the next car might be our last car.

DAILY DRIVER, Dodge Stratus Coupe

BRANDS I LIKE, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mazda, Subaru and Ford

BRANDS I HAD TROUBLE WITH, Pontiac, Chevrolet and Toyota but the biggest pile of crap by far was a Renault Alliance.

WHAT DO I LIKE ABOUT MY BRANDS, Style, content, quality, heritage. Currently we own 2 Dodges (one is a Mitsubishi platform), a Chrysler (Crossfire Roadster, basically a restyled Mercedes SLK) a Jeep Cherokee and a Mazda 6. The Jeep (over 100,000 miles) has been bulletproof over the past 16 years, the American Dodge is a show car that I have owned for 30 years, so nothing but regular maintenance. The Mitsubishi Dodge ( over 120,000 miles) was my sons car who is rough on car but overall it has been pretty reliable. The wife's Mazda 6 ( over 100,000 )has also been pretty much trouble free, the only thing I can complain about is the fact that the rear passenger quarter panel is starting to rust, I hate rust. The Crossfire (42,000) has been trouble free the three years I have owned it but, I worry about something going wrong with all the Mercedes parts involved. As you can see I am pretty much all over the place and I tend to keep my vehicles a long time. Say it ain't so but my Chrysler (9) products have been the most trouble free vehicles I have owned over the past 40 plus years.

DO YOU WISH TO OWN A CERTAIN BRAND ONE DAY, I all ready own a Jeep but, I would like a new Wrangler as for other brands I am pretty open to anything. The exception would probably be Toyota, quality aside I don't like the way they look and they seem to much like boring appliances. Not a bad thing, just not for me.

NEW OR USED, I have purchased both in the past and will continue to do so in the future. I buy what I like.

Currently we have 3 Fords, 1997 Escort, 2007 Ranger, and 2014 Escape. With recent bad experience (Jeep) we would never buy anything by Chrysler again, and consider both Toyota and Honda to be overpriced because they had such a good reputation for so long. The brand I would consider in the future is Subaru. I'm currently looking for a Chevrolet, but not a recent one. Back in the 60s-early 70s they had reliable cars that were easy to work on and for my next classic I'm in the market for a 1969-72 Nova, or 1966-67 Chevelle with a 350.
Looked at a really nice one Saturday but it had a 468 big block, 400+ hp and about 6mpg.

Daily driver: Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4 Turbo/auto
Unless, of course, I drive my truck:
Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 SWB 5.9 V8/auto
Motorhome chassis: Ford F-53 triton V10/auto
Street Legal (registered and licensed) ATVs:
Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4X4
I used to drive AMC Eagles, but the damfools quit making them. IMO, the best vehicle ever built for snow country. I miss my old SX/4.
I haven't owned a Ford (other than the motorhome chassis) or a GM product in many years.
I drove Subaru Outbacks for a while, but it became painful to get in and out of them, and I wanted a convertible, so we got the PT. Yes, it really IS easier to get in and out of then the Subaru was!
I also drove Jeeps of various types and styles for many years. But, I wanted a truck, so something had to go. The Jeep went. I miss it, but the reduction in insurance premiums and registration costs is very welcome!
In 2017 I will be able to put PERMANENT registration on the PT Cruiser, then everything we own will be registered permanently. No more registration renewal fees/taxes EVER!

Toyota - this is my second one (first one I had for 20 yrs.) - first car was a Gremlin (boy was that a mistake but I was YOUNG), then had a Nova - it was a trooper as well - for a short time between the first Toyota and this one had a Dodge Neon (was on a budget and it served the purpose) - I plan on this Toyota lasting me 20 yrs.

Pretty much any, though I am not a huge fan of Ford/Dodge trucks or vans. Just by looking at my cars, you could assume I'm GM biased, but I LOVE Volkswagens/Audis too.

Which brands have you had trouble with?

Nothing that I couldn't fix has ever broken.

What do you like about your brand? (Safety, tech., efficiency, design etc.)

GM's divisions for its older designs, VW for its designs and drivability.

Do you wish to own a certain brand one day?

I'm looking for a 1993-95 Saturn SW2.

Did you buy your car new or used?

One out of 27 or 28 cars that I have I bought new, the rest used.
Isn't there an option that lets posters pick multiple options in polls? Those are my answers, though.

My daily driver is a Toyota Corolla. I value reliability above all else, and the Corolla definitely delivers here. It also gets very good gas mileage, usually 34 MPG around town, and 42 on the highway with the five speed manual transmission.

I have had trouble with every Detroit car I ever owned. Of course I didn't know they were troublesome at the time. I thought all cars had lots of problems until I bought my first Japanese make. The most reliable American brand I had was a 1962 Rambler. The worst was a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim LX. The Rambler wasn't as reliable as the worst Japanese vehicle (Isuzu). The only makes I would consider buying today are Toyota and Subaru.
