The best that will happen is nothing - no stops: the worst that can happen is your vehicle and all that is in it will be impounded until you can provide registration or title, pay a hefty fine, for towing, and all the days of impound and during that time, whatever is in the vehicle is not available to you.

I wouldn't risk it.

When I had Nevada plates I got pulled over in California, Oregon and Arizona because the cops didn't look close enough to see the year of expiration on the small sticker - they were just going by the month. And I don't exactly fit any cop's profile, white female > 60 . It was always cleared up as soon as I showed them the registration card, but I'm sure if the reg had expired they wouldn't have shown much mercy and probably would have towed my car. If I were the OP I would rent a u-haul with a car trailer and put the car on that- if the wheels aren't on the road the registration isn't relevant.

In 2012 a buddy of mine and I saw a truck from OK in eastern WA with a 3 year expired tag on the plate.

Honestly it was sketcky... so much so that we called it in to the cops. Just think about that...

2 guys in their mid-20s, who occasionally break the law (said law has since been fixed), called that truck in because it was THAT sketchy.
