It certainly can't hurt to see what they'd offer, then sell it privately. If you get no action, you still have Carmax to fall back on, assuming nothing materially changes or much time elapses.
Note that Craigslist buyers are usually cash buyers, so it is tougher to get a serious buyer as the asking price gets higher (as opposed to cheaper/older cars, I mean).
I went the CarMax route selling my '08 SuperCrew. I saw it online (minus pictures) waking up last Thursday morning and it was gone the next afternoon. So, someone with bad credit who wasn't buying with their own pre-approval got it.
Wouldn't even bother with anything else. The one offer I got on CL was some goon offering me $4000 less than I asked (a reasonable asking price, to boot) and her lowball wouldn't have even paid off the loan.
I got a quote from CarMax on my 03 Audi A4. $3,000. I told them no thanks and sold it two days later on CL for $7,500. We took our Venza in for an appraisal and they offered us $20,000 for it. NADA retail was $31,000 and trade in was $26k. I've never really had much luck with CarMax myself. And noticed when we were looking for an Expedition Limited, they wanted $2-5k more than other dealers for the same car with about 5-10k miles more.
You have to weed out the tire kickers on CL, but I bought my F250 there. Showed up and shook the guys hand, then we went to my bank and they cut him a check. I sold my old F150 there in about a week for my full asking price.
