I'd like to know why 200hp was used as the point of discussion. All 3 of my cars are over 200hp and I think they're all slow enough as it is (but at least one of them is stick and fun to drive). Do they even cars under 200hp anymore except for those stupid looking economy cars? I think 300hp or even 400hp would've been a more appropriate cutoff.
Ask me if I care Im a product of the 60s and 70s when speed ruled the roads. Hell I would take a Hellcat in a heartbeat, love Mopar speed had a 1964 Dodge Polara with a big block 318. My older brother had a 1963 Dodge Polara with a 426 Hemi and raced on woodward ave in Royal Oak MI. he raced for pinks back then won a couple cars never lost a race.
Dude, I'm on your side! I've got a high HP daily driver and I was just on Woodward Ave back in Michigan last October cruising my uncle's 1974 Corvette Stingray.
Since the OP made a car payment comment, I'd like him to know my car is paid off. Our household carries no debt outside a mortgage and my daily driver is 360 HP RWD car. So take that!
That payment comment was directed at me. Apparently I'm looking at financing for seven years and never taking a day of vacation to afford the car I want. That's really weird, because I swear I was going to do a 3 year lease.

I live in Florida now but I sure miss Michigan and crusing down Woodward Ave. and Gratiot.
My Forester XT has 250HP and 258lb/ft torque. Coming from a Honda Civic with 120HP, that is a significant difference! I use the power for when I lug groceries and people as well as having the AC blasting. The power is addictive and I just love listening to the turbo whoosh in this car. Other times that I need the power is when I want to merge quickly or overtake a slow driver.
...if you live in a metro area and have to commute to work? Wow you opened up your dodge at a redlight and I met you 1/4 mile down the road at the next light congrats!
Because fast cars are almost ALWAYS prettier. At least to me.
Please enlighten us as to what brand model of sedan you drive ?
Mercedes S550.
4.6L V-8 Bi-turbo, direct injection
429 HP
516 lb-ft torque
It's a large 2 ton rear drive very comfortable sedan that can easily carry 5 "6 footers" with room to spare that belies what's under the hood. It can do 0-60 in ~ 5 sec if needed all while averaging 21 mpg. Most of the time, even at freeway speeds the engine is turning less than 2K rpm.
IMO, one of the best driving vehicles out there.

I'd rather have the power and not need it than be in a situation where something happens and wished I could have moved away from it faster.
Plus, luckily, there are no restrictions on where you can drive. (At least not yet) So, you don't ONLY have to go to work and back in your car.
I did, and boy, does that car have some go juice, and I'm very glad for that. My wife has an older Toyota truck and she doesn't even like driving mine because it feels overpowered to her. It's a 2006 Toyota RAV4 with the uncommon V6 engine, and it has 269 HP. Living in Houston, I've found it essential to have the power to accelerate quickly to get out of tight spots. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there and just getting on the freeways, where many entrances don't have acceleration lanes, require a lot of power in order to avoid getting creamed by other drivers.
Depending on the size/weight of the car, 200hp is actually pretty quick. A compact car under 3,000lbs with 200hp is more than enough to get you up and going for any type of driving situation. Now 200hp in a mid-full sedan will struggle a bit when you need power on tap.
