What aspect about this model's engineering makes it highly recommended among off-road enthusiasts? Does its performance in rough roads match traditional truck-based SUVs like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser?
You must be from the northeast. That's about the only place you'd hear something that dumb....maybe Kalifornia too. The LR2 is for casual off roading at best. It is NOT a serious off roading vehicle at all. You might find it interesting that the running gear is Ford. Land Rover provides the frame and body and the appointments. The 2.0 engine is the Ford EB with Selectshift transmission. It's basically not a 4x4 as it is a front wheel drive car with an all wheel option. There is no low range transfer case. It is not going to stay with a Rubicon on trails or most any of the old 4x4s like a Bronco or Blazer. I doubt it would go where a new 4x4 truck will go and it certainly isn't going to climb where a truck will. So next time someone tells you that, you need to know he's clueless.
FWIW, I have a bud who is the local shop manager for Land Rover. He'll tell you quick, if you like major problems with a vehicle, Range Rover is built for you. He won't own one.
What is sad is that most people don't even know that this is a Land Rover.
The last true Land Rovers we had here in North America (outside of grey market imported ones) were the Gasser 3.9L V-8 Defender 90's but the next defender may be sold in the US and Canadian markets in 2019.
they come in the off-road edition which seems like they have some option where one is more of Jeep Wrangler Rubicon off-road capable SUV (Above) and the other high end version more of a AMG Mercedes G-Wagen competitor (Below)

Interesting I didn't know a Defender might come here
25 years is sliding right along and some real deal legal Defenders are becoming a legal option....so expensive though!
The LR2 is a cute-ute, made for a price, and to target a certain demographic segment, not unlike the Mercedes GLA. It's not built for especially rugged terrain at all, despite having a Land Rover name. It has none of the rugged capability of a Land Cruiser.

I have literally nothing to add to this other than the fact that California is pretty much the capital of the off-roading world. The Rubicon, Fordyce Creek, Johnson Valley, etc...are all located in California along with literally millions of acres of public land
