Air Conditioning. I could do crank windows, manual locks, AM-only radio, heck even give me a carburetor, but there is no way in hell I couldn't have A/C.
I have AC in two of 48 cars... it is nice when hot... thankfully, the part of the SF Bay Area where I live is seldom that hot... no one in my neighborhood has Air Conditioned homes.
AC, remote start are essential. Many modern conveniences that weren't standard years ago are now standards, like power steering and brakes. Things I could manage without but wouldn't be happy are: Power windows, heated seats, power seats, a good stereo, automatic transmission, automatic dimming rearview mirror, passenger side rearview mirror, keyless entry, rear defroster, fuel injection (my classic car is carbureted).
Its find it interesting how many "must haves" people want in their car that I find completely useless. I guess that's why they are called options. Seems like many of these features though have become standard over the years and unfortunately has driven the price of cars up. Its almost impossible to get a bare boned car these days and work your way up to what's perfect for the individual.
Yes the 60's were the good ole days of car buying.
I didn't live in the 60s but sometimes I sure as hell wish I did.
I was born in 1955 and the 70's were my time muscle cars galore and the time when they changed the drinking age to 18, Vietnam winding down still registered for the draft though. I had plenty of cars back then living in the Detroit area cars and parts were very cheap, wish I had my 1964 Dodge polar a now. Sure miss driving down Woodward ave. those were the days listing to classic rock on my 8 track and FM radio.
