500 miles won't make a huge difference as long as the vehicle seems to be driving fine, your steering wheel isn't vibrating or the car isn't shaking as you go down the road.

How's your current alignment doing? Are your tires wearing evenly and square? Any abnormal wear? Does the car pull?

If the tires are worn evenly, I don't think there would be much issue in holding off 500 miles on an alignment. Now, if the wear was abnormal and you had heavy wear on the inside of the tires, or uneven wear, then I would expedite getting an alignment.

If there were no irregularities in wear on the outgoing tires, and they're being replaced with the same height tires, there is no reason to get an alignment. Tire specialists may recommend alignments for two reasons; (1) It helps you stay without the grounds of the tire manufacture warranty, and (2) The outgoing tires show irregular wear which indicates poor alignment.

So when you go into Costco, ask the installer to inspect wear patterns and any irregularities. If they find them, get an alignment ASAP and do not wait.

Vibrating steering wheel and shaking has nothing to do with alignment and everything to do with tire BALANCE.

Exactly! The old tires tell the story.

It's a bad idea, but not catastrophic. The more uneven the wear is on the old tires the more you need an alignment.
