My wife had a 1987 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo GT, 2.0 Brazilian engine with about 150 hp. Mated to a 3 speed auto. It was almost as bad as my Daytona for reliability but while the Daytona was a lemon, it never needed a tow. The Sunbird's computer was the problem, failed three times. It looked great but was a real POS.
Sold it for a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi, 190 hp 2.0 Turbo. A real screamer, and built superbly. All of the Diamond Star trio (Talon, 1st gen Mitsu Eclipse, Plymouth Laser) were an excellent balance of performance and efficiency. We hated to get rid of the Talon, tons of fun. Well, not tons, it only weighed about 2700 lbs IIRC.

But when it worked, that Sunbird GT and Buick Skyhawk Turbo T-Type were quick but suffered from the usual turbo lag followed by whiplash take-off when the turbo engages.
My parents had a 1987 Pontiac 6000 STE. That car was loaded out with tech for its day... digital dash, power moonroof, steering wheel radio controls, all sorts of warnings, and it even had ABS brakes which were unheard of at the time. I remember the computer going out once and costing about $900 to replace.

Felt like Lt Sulu didn't ya? My inlaws had one of those things, man that car was very nice to drive and ride in.
