Me too, I hate it. Also truck lights are much better than cars. For the most part up here people are good about clicking beams off.

I think it's also discourteous to drivers in front of you heading the same direction. Your high beams will be reflected in their rearview and/or side mirrors. It's only acceptable if you are the only driver on the road that you can see, excluding those behind you.
