Default The new G8 Pontiac

When I was down at Daytona watching the Rolex,Pontiac had a tent set up with the new Pontiac's on display. The new G8 dressed in black really caught my eye.A good looking car.I checked the MSRP G8:$27,595 G8 GT:$29,995.The GT package has the 6.0L engine option.Should run good.Anyone drove one yet?

My complaints about this car:

1: Too heavy -- I feel like an old curmudgeon saying "back in my day," but I'm getting tired of cars gaining more and more weight with each passing model cycle

2: Will not have manual shift option even though one was promised (or at least strongly implied) when it debuted on the show circuit last year. Why not, especially when there's already an off-the-shelf manual available for at least the V8?

3: Why only 360HP for the V8? That's down 40 from the car it replaces.

I saw a few G8s at the Detroit Auto Show and I definitely liked what I saw BUT, the manual tranmission is a definite deal breaker for me if it's not available.

Several other posters at various auto forums also shared that sentiment.

Very nice looking car, but not crazy about the dash lay out.

Remember though that this is a 6 speed automatic....a NIGHT AND DAY difference from a 4-speed automatic. This car is going to be BIG and a big money maker for GM. I own a 2005 GTO and love the car....if I had the money, I would get a G8 indeed.

I too have always wondered why they bumped DOWN the horsepower to 360....it should be 400HP. Maybe because of EPA ?

I don't care if it's a 38-speed automatic. If it has a torque converter, I'm not interested.

Another big, overweight, underperforming, automatic-only, bad handling GM sedan.

Ill pass and wait for GM to create something that truly invigorates a budget-minded enthusiast. For that price Ill take a Lancer RS or Impreza WRX and smoke it silly, with 1/2 the engine and in all weather conditions.
