Still, there isn't a production SUV that can match the Tesla off the line. There's very few production cars that can beat the Model S off the line, and they're all supercars. It'll probably take a 600-650hp Porsche SUV to take down the Model X.
Indeed, the benefits of electric-motors, and of thorough engineering around the electric motors, are not to be gainsaid. Tesla has an impressive achievement on its hands. I am however personally disappointed that they're building ever bulkier and more voluminous vehicles. If only they'd refined the Lotus-based original "Tesla roadster"! From a logistical viewpoint, I see a greater rationale for a single-person (driver-only, maybe occasional passenger) miniature sports-car, than for a family-swallowing SUV. Then again, American tastes have always been foreign to me (literally and figuratively).

From a logical stand point, it makes more sense to build what they will sell more of. There is more of a market for family cars then there is for miniature sports cars.
Of course they can. You don't think it ran as fast of a time towing the Alfa as it did racing the Bentayga do you?
The first race, it ran high 11's. Towing the Alfa, it posted basically the same 1/4 time as the Alfa, which is 13.0 at 106 mph or so.
It BEAT Alfa.
Show me another car that will do same under same conditions. I'd guess, that infamous Mercedes with 4 electric motors, Black something, possibly could, but I still somehow doubt.

Actually if they had done the same test with the Bentayga or a Cayenne Turbo S towing, I'm betting they both would have beaten the Model X. Both of them are going faster through the 1/4 mile than the Model X, meaning they have more power. The advantage the X has is that it wins off the line... which is greatly hampered by towing something.
