Most convertible tops are made of some sort of polymer (plastic). In the case of my S2000 it is actually a form of PVC. Typically a cut is repaired by stitching to close and hold the material and then a patch on the interior. There are special ballistic (nylon) materials and adhesives used by some but I have actually patched some using vinyl material from the fabric store and RTV as an adhesive.
Just replace it. A patch will leak, not last, and look terrible. A replacement top is not that expensive and fairly easy to do, plus if you have a plastic rear window it will be nice to be able to see out of it again for a little while.

Yeah, new is nice but there is a big price difference between a $300+ replacement and a good $10 repair. BTW, a plastic window can be kept clear with proper use of plastic polish and cleaner.
