Know about what? I know about practicality of design and beautiful design engineering.
Like, the 1990 Civic Si - I prefer it to the modern Honda Fit, because it has more room, a sunroof, was very easy to self-maintain and repair, and I think back then there was no ECU in it. I was big, roomy, and elegant, too.

And look at the simplicity of it's engine:

I think reliability engineering and the science of designing a strong reliable component somewhat existed awesome enough back in 1990. FEA probably got mature enough by 1999 to make well designed reliable cars and car components, because of modern enough computers and software by then. Then vehicles seemed to get "conspired" and bloated since 2006+.
Today's small cars are also so expensive, with a Ford Fiesta costing $15,455.
I say the ability to design reliable cars comparable today vs the past occurred around maybe 1997 to 1999 or so. Because FEA - finite element analysis probably got good enough back then to accurately design more reliable car components.
