I've nearly been sideswiped on several occasions by people doing this. They're not even making U-turns, just regular turns onto a street. No need for drastic maneuvers when doing such a simple driving task.
If the roads are narrow and the curb is high, you need to swing wide. Also matters if there's a vehicle on the road you're turning onto. I just think people don't size up the particular corner checking those things and just swing wide out of habit.
Only time I think a driver needs to swing out before making a turn is if they're driving something like a big RV. Those things you do need to make wide right turns with. But I've seen people do the same thing driving a Prius or a Corolla.
Which, btw, is how I got ran off the road one time. I had a Tacoma in front of me that had swung over into the left turn lane, so I assumed they were turning left. The lady then turns right across my road at the time I got right up on here. I had to go off the road to miss her. The driveway she was turning into was not such a sharp turn that she needed to get completely into the left turn lane to make. I can see getting over just a little bit, but she was completely in the left turn lane.
Yep, these are the worst offenders and my main pet peeve
I have two pet peeves.............drivers who swerve out to make rounded turns and the opposite............................drivers who angle across when turning and nearly take my front bumper off as I approach a stop sign/stop light.
If drivers were taught to make 90 degree turns both of my pet peeves ( and your pet peeve ) would be solved/eliminated.

Cars can't actually make a 90 degree turn. I suppose the can make closer to one than they are currently doing but it is always going to be an arc and not a 90 degree angle.
Yes. Also, no need to get pissed because of this and ruin your karma. It is not going to change anything. Be aware and give way.
