Our local Mercedes dealer stopped allowing it in the late 1990s when it became popular for the air miles, and since limit it to service and parts only. It was costing them a fortune when people charged a $50,000 car and it cost them 3% or whatever it was then.

I put my down payment on a CC.

Sure beats bringing cash in, or writing a check, plus I got points and then applied them to the bill before I paid it off the following week.

if they allow to put a lot on the CC, you are paying too much for the car.

It is the same reason many banks don't allow payment of house mortgage on a credit card.

So true. If they let you do it, then you should be able to do better negotiating price.

Just curious...is this even allowed?Mae
Many car dealers will not accept a credit card for payment of anything outside of service/repair.
I know in Illinois and Iowa no one will accept a credit card for payment of any new or used vehicle.

I personally know people who put 10 grand on their CC for their new car. Someone here once posted that he was a car salesman & mentioned that a customer can put his whole car on CC if they pay full freight. I can easily believe that as well.

I am wondering why you would want to charge a car purchase with a credit card?
