I have long been asking myself this question. Perhaps it is safe to assume a full-size, however, which one? *Passenger room, not for the driver. For the other people in the car.
Candidates can be sedans, coupes, SUV, or trucks.. trying to avoid minivans here, though lately they do somewhat overlap to an SUV (car-based SUVs are sort of minivan.) However, more than likely talking about a 4-door sedan.
Right off the top of my head, I am thinking of a Lincoln Town Car L (long-wheelbase) as far as a sedan goes. Though I do not know if it has a front bench seat, as a lot of Buicks and even a 2000 Continental do. This also was a consideration: Front bench seat.
I cannot recall the last time I saw a front bench seat on a German vehicle. Or even Japanese.
An Audi A8 L seems a nice, stretched-wheelbase for taller passengers. 6ft3, 6ft4, etc.. The longer wheelbase seems required.
Caprices seem like a big car, but is there a lot of passenger room inside? The rear doors look small.
So. I have thrown out quite a few variables.. But. What say you?
Why don't you simply go to Edmunds or Auto.com and compare specs for cars chosen side by side? They will give you all the measurements, then you pick a couple and go check it in corpore.
Specs don't always tell the whole story, as the shape of the space is important as well.
OP, the reason you don't see too many front benches is due to modern safety regs for passenger cars. It's hard to put a shoulder belt and central air bag and side curtain airbags for the front center seat. And no real place to put your legs safely, either, with the transmission tunnel in there.
Light trucks are a different story, but even then, central front seating positions are going away for the same reasons.
Those 21 people...have to really like each other. Hope no one has BO or gas.
The Buick Lacrosse (or whatever variant exists in your part of the world its body is also used for the Chevy Impala and Cadillac XTS here) is a car with a lot of interior space that isn't expensive. Shaq can fit in one. The back seat is very spacious as well, as long as he isn't sitting in front of you.
The Audi A8/BMW 7 series/Lexus LS all come in a "long" version and are all super nice cars.
