Thanks for all of the replies so far. I hadn't even looked at the Chevy/GMC vans to start thinking about engine size and power, but that is an important point. We don't need a powerful engine for towing or hauling heavy loads, but we do need to be able to accelerate and merge in traffic.
With regard to the Mercedes and elevated Transit styles, I hadn't heard or thought about how they could be affected by the wind. I wonder how much the Crosswind Assist has been able to alleviate the noise and handling issues- I guess only a test-drive on a breezy day would answer that for sure. We'll also ask some friends of ours who have a NV about wind resistance.
A 9 passenger Suburban could buy us a little bit of time, but we will be at capacity in our 8-passenger Sienna in the spring and want to be able to have some growing room/space for carpooling or relatives who visit.
We see a lot of these at work as we work with the dealerships. After driving them all and seeing them go in/out. I prefer the Nissan NV. If I had to buy one today, I would strongly consider the Nissan.

My friend who traded an older RWD without Crosswind Assist for a new 4x4 with Crosswind Assist has said that it makes the van handle so much better in the wind. It really helps on the highway, and if you're in a snowy climate with wind, like Northern IL, I'd definitely look at it, even if it is a tad more expensive, because the reliability of the Mercedes will allow you to keep it running for many years.

Any particular reasons? Is it that the Nissan is just the overall best, or are there particular strengths in this one (or weaknesses in the other ones)?
