As I said in the Weathertech floor mats thread, my used vehicle came with a set of Weathertech floor mats but the original carpet floor mats were in the back. They are pretty dirty, but I've looked at prices for new ones....yikes!

So, would carpet cleaner be the best way to clean them? If so, what is the best kind? If the carpet cleaner didn't get everything out, what would be the best way to just wash them? Maybe take them to a manual car wash and use the jet sprayer on them? (may be a dumb idea, I don't know!)

I really would prefer to keep the carpet mats in there in dry weather...I have to take my shoes off a good bit in the car and like the softness underneath.

I use the Bissell Little Green Machine, but we have it for spot cleaning in the house too. You can use carpet cleaner diluted as directed in a squirt bottle, scrub with a stiff brush, and then use a shop vac on it, or rinse with a hose and then hang out to dry.

Pressure washer or the do it yourself car wash high pressure gun, that's what we did when I worked at a car wash and have done it every since without issue

That is exactly what I do with mine. Rub in ordinary carpet cleaner ahead of time. Then use the spray wash. Takes a long time to get all of the cleaner out with just the rinse button.

In reality, the carpet mats that came with car may be of good quality or may have been cheap junk from the beginning.

New ones are real money, but not that expensive. Don't look at the one size fits all in auto parts stores or department stores. Look online for exact fit.
I am on my 2nd set of custom fit replacement carpet mats. But car is 15 years old.

The place by my house even has clips to hang them up when you use the sprayer.

The car wash by my home did it for me and it was less then 10 dollars for 2. Mine were so dirty from the snow and salt but after they looked new. I am thinking most car washes clean floor mats for a reasonable price.

I personally use this product https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-T-.../dp/B003WJCX92 and their related upholstery cleaner. Both seem to work pretty well.

Looks like some good reviews on that stuff...I'll look for it next time I'm in Wally World. Thanks!
