I always have kept 2 cars for my exclusive use. Just easier to not depend on people when things happen in life. It has really worked to my benefit and worth the meager additional insurance in my opinion.
Anyway, my lease is ending on one car and the car I own has a fatal engine issue. For the first time in 20 years i will not only not have 2 cars, i will have no cars
My sister is going to sell me her 02 highlander in a few months but I will obviously need a car before that and since i want to keep 2 cars and want to not spend more than 5k i have not really found anything yet. Can anyone recommend a decent 4 door car for under 5k with manual transmission? I would like something newer than 2005 and reliable. Usually I stick with Honda and Toyota. Are Mazda 3's any good? Any American brands that are good? I will never ever ever buy or lease a Chrysler product again. Total piecs of subpar garbage.
Co-worker was looking for a car for his kid and one interesting car we found with 4 doors and manual transmission that can be had for under $5K without a bazillion miles is the Saturn Astra. It's an Opel Astra brought over basically unchanged.
It's a very common car in Europe.
The owners seem to love them and because they built so many over there getting parts does not seem to be a problem.
Reliability on TrueDelta is very good.
2008 Saturn Astra... 43 trips per hundred.
2008 Honda Civic... 48 trips per hundred.
You rent for the time being. There are many frugal options to rent long term. Though it may sound expensive, in long run, it will be cheaper than rush buying a piece of junk and paying grossly for repairs.
Well here is an update. I decided it made sense to go the car payment route and put the cash down to keep payments low and payoff quick. I found a gem of a used car. It is a 2014 Accord LX with only 25,000 miles. Car was purchased new at a local honda dealer, have the history, already deprecated and with a rare 6 speed manual transmission.

Good choice. The 2014 accord is a solid car that will last you many years!
I'm currently leasing a 2016 Accord Sport. I may just end up keeping it once my lease is up. Seems as if Honda is going with a small displacement turbo 4cyl for their next Accord. Personally I'm not a fan of these tiny turbo engines. The 2.4 earthdreams engine in my Accord is tried and proven. I get great gas mileage along with solid performance. It's quite potent for a 4cyl with its 189hp and 182ft lbs tq.

As the owner of a shop that specializes in Asian makes I think you will be fine with that Accord.
