The second generation Volvo has a retractable hard top, so it's a coupe when the top is in place, with no security disadvantage over a similar vehicle that does not have a retractable roof. I have never had an issue with a soft top, though, but I never leave anything of value in the car. That only deters a petty thief or an opportunistic one, since a professional can get the car, regardless of roof type, locks, alarm systems -- few defenses other than a theft recovery system.

The retractable hardtop fad is just about played out.
Way too much to go wrong with them. A lot goes on to keep them from crashing.

Soft tops are quite simple once the linkage geometry is worked out.
Sort of like a fancy La-Z-Boy recliner. They naturally fold and unfold to the right positions.

2005-2013 bmw 3 series??? Could get one with about 50k miles for that budget.
