MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Front seat occupants of pickup trucks use their seat belts 10 percent less than occupants of other motor vehicles, an Ohio study has found.

Robert Seufert, of the Miami University Applied Research Center Middletown, also found seatbelt usage by those in pickups went down from what it had been a year earlier by 3 percent.

I didn't wear seatbelts either, in my P/U, until a friend hit a roadside culvert and went through his windshield hands first. I think of that sight all the time now, and use my good hands to buckle up. I have no opinion of anybody else's habits, except for children. Thanks for the reminder.

Not related so much to pick ups, but seat belts. I was convinced when I saw a person that had gone trough the windshield face first laying on the hood. Well, half on. This was before seat belts or air bags.

My first new car had belts. I've not driven without one since 1973.

I always wear them. Anybody in the car with me must wear them. Parents who don't buckle their children should be horsewhipped.

That being said, I don't think it should be against the law to drive without them. Why? Because it's just not the state's business to protect people from themselves.

So, instead of a law requiring seat belts be worn you want one that requires a person caught without one be horsewhipped?

No, people who don't buckle their children. But horsewhipping is much more effective than a fine, wouldn't you agree?
