And the Woodward dream cruise in August lots of cars at the largest cruise in the world.
And... this morning, another 1st-gen Grand Cherokee. Older than the ones I spotted yesterday, and to date the oldest one I’ve ever noticed.
I keep track of the older Grand Cherokees. There are many out on the road but this one is the oldest.
.
Do you remember this post from 17 Jun? Of the oldest-to-date 1st-gen JGC that I’ve ever noticed out on the road? That one was parked on a San Jose CA (or Santa Clara) city street when I spotted it last Sunday morning.
Well... I ran into that exact same JGC this morning on my drive in to work.
Pretty cool!

A Roadmaster Station Wagon! It made me happy to see it. I grew up riding in and then driving those big boat wagons and the Roadmaster was the biggest boatiest of all of them.
It's Silicon Valley, so on a daily basis I see things like self-driving cars being tested by Google, Mazaratti's, Bentleys and things like that.
We see obviously see a lot of new models being tested in Detroit metro, but the self driving cars have a special facility where they are tested safely. They have various types of driving replicated in the facility.
Ford Appears to be ahead of everyone in that game, but many of the others are being pretty quiet about it. Either they are catching up or they want to remain secretive. I think the former since they all share the testing facility and it woudl be hard to be very secretive.
Ford is building a special (and large) tech center just for self driving (and electric?) car development.
Google or apple bought an old airport and have been very quiet about what it is for, but the scuttlebutt is it will become a self driving test facility.
There are a lot of legal issues relating to testing them on the public streets when they are not fully developed. It will likely be banned soon until they can prove they are not going to kill people anymore. that is not really valid since regular cars are developed in part through testing on public streets and sometimes get into collisions, but self-driving get special scrutiny.
According to a friend who is a design engineer, we are at least 20 years away form true self driving cars available to the public. He said they will likely come out first as very high end models like you mentioned, and they will only be for the very rich. Eventually they will become commonplace. Elements of self driving already are fairly commonplace, but it is a big - huge leap to true self driving as in you watch Netflix while you car drives to your destination.

I owned a 1974 Ford country squire wagon it was a beautiful wagon deluxe everything. I could pull a 30 foot camper trailer with a Reese hitch.
