These days you cant compare like body styles for like body styles. My SUV will do 0-60 in under 5 sec, and the 1/4 in under 13. So is it fast? not compared to a tesla, but it is compared to a mustang.

Ok so how about 6.3 seconds...

Some cars are really quick after being driven hard and with Premium 93 octane gas (or at least 91) and then not so much when conditons are not as favorable..

Yes. It is kind of a shame. When SUVs are that fast, it kind of takes the fun out of muscle or sports cars a little bit. THe poor mustang and camaro boys are getting trounced by soccer moms these days.

A car that can go 0-60 in 6.3 seconds is no longer fast when you have 2-3 of your friends in the car.

Yeah you open Pandora's box when talking about gas octane and any other variables, as 0-60s are a baseline per OEM recommendations. And for each 100lbs, subtract about 10hp.

0-60 is a pretty artificial metric for typical driving. 30-70 is far more interesting under normal driving conditions.

That said is X fast in 0-60? No I consider 4.0s and lower fast, higher it maybe ok, 6.0s and above is sloooowwww.

But that's what I mean by fast, there aren't many fast cars, and the 0-60 time has decreased as cars lowered their times.

Then again, you've also got to compare like with like and typical use. Is a 1 ton pickup with 1cu yd of gravel reaching 60 from a standstill in 8.2s fast? Yep, it's pretty damn quick that's for sure. How about a 750cc engine or above motorcycle hitting 60 in 4 seconds? Nope 4 seconds is an eternity on a bike.

It does seem to vary widely. Wiki listed 0-60 as 8.2 with an auto. 0-60 listed it as 6.3.

That's quite a difference.

As to the weight thing.. what about torque, and low-end grunt?

I wish the guy with the 5 sec. 0 to 60 and 13 sec in the 1/4 SUV would have said what kind of SUV it is.

Acceleration is power to weight ratio and SUV's are awfully heavy.

I remember back in the 80's where 8 seconds was fast which I guess it was even for something like a Mustang. Then VW came out with their 16V Sirocco which did 0-60 in 7.7 which was embarrassing to anyone who had a muscle car back then.

These days for a car I'd say that anything under 5 seconds is pretty fast. You have VW's matching Mustang's 0-60 times these days. 4.5 seems to be about what your getting for around $40K these days.

Of course the more you spend the faster you go.
