I have my dad's 2005 Lincoln Towncar with low mileage. It's been sitting unused since last summer and was only started a few times. It doesn't seem to have a leak but it must have had moisture inside because it became covered with mildew. I want to find an auto detailing service that can clean out the inside of the car completely, including the air/heat/ac ventilation system. I can't even go near it with the door open, it's so bad it makes me sick. Has anyone ever successfully cleaned out a car with this kind of damage and been able to use it without there still being mold and mildew in the ventilation?
He still owes $$ on it and I'm considering just having the bank repo rather than deal with trying to clean it and get the finances caught up.

We did with one vehicle that sat for close to a year. I shampooed it with one of those rental systems from the local supermarket, in the summer, then let it sit with all windows open in the sun. When completely dry, I sprayed all of the upholstery with Lysol, and let it sit in the sun again every day for 3 days. Then I used one of those hanging air fresheners
and when that wore out it actually smelled normal again, probably 3 months later. Any good detailing shop should be able to handle the job for a few hundred, as long as it hasn't gone through the fabric and into the foam underneath.
A company makes product that kills off mold. My mechanic friends got a hold of it through their neighbors who own a insulation company. One of my work trucks got water inside via an idiot. Whenever I drove it after, I would get stuffed up in my sinuses (not a good thing at all). After the mold can was used, all sinus problems went away.
I cured a car with mold some years ago by buying some mildewcide which came in small packets. I spread them around inside the car and parked it in the sun.
I can't even begin to imagine the mold you can't see.....
Granted....those cars have a good value when put into livery service....it could be worth more than you think...especially
if it is the extended wheelbase one and black.
