I worked for Advance back in the late 90's while in high school and really enjoyed that job. I learned a LOT from our manager who was a vehicle expert. He could tell you what a part came off of without asking any information. He would then tell you what bin location it had on the shelf. If we didn't have it, he knew it and could tell you where to find it in the computer or what catalog to look in to find it. He spent a lot of time with us showing us how to identify what a part fit on by unique characteristics.

We were required to take a basic aptitude test before being hired on. We had to know the difference in standard and metric, know how to identify the grade of a bolt by looking at the markings on the bolt head, how to measure, how to use indexes in catalogs, etc....

I made $8.50/hr working there in 1998. He ran a tight ship, so products in the aisles were constantly being fronted and faced, oil was kept stocked in the racks, etc... We never had an empty shelf. I wouldn't mind working there again part time once I retire from my career just to have something to do.

And like I said time to start something new.
WOW OP, DON'T BASH TEACHERS! What you like to do for your occupation and what others like to do is their choice. And a teacher is a very admirable and HARD job. And before you ask, no I'm not a teacher, but I have kids and teachers do not get the pay or recognition that they actually deserve to teach the adults of the future.

ANYWAY....you said it's time to start something new. Do you already have a new job?? If so, what is it or are you going to school?

How does saying that you'd rather sell parts than teach middle school equate to "bashing teachers"? I'd rather go fishing than get a colonoscopy, but that doesn't mean that I hate proctologists.
