True, and they lasted until the mid 80s. I was surprised that the original owners got to keep the original plates that came with the car, unlike other states- that force you to get a new plate style.
I have vanity plates. It didn't make me drive any differently. But at least people know how to spell my name now.
Just drove behind one such plate recently. She was driving like she is out of her mind. I was following her to her arrival point (by a coincidence, our jobs are in a close distance). Now I know that a guy X whose business I bill monthly, and who is a whiner and complainer and a jealous backstabber himself, and never pays on time, has the wife he deserves. Very helpful, these vanity plates.

Nowadays you can still get them if you get custom plates, there are also yellow and black ones that seem to be popular but I don't think they would look right on my car, it depends on the color scheme of your vehicle imo.
Virginia has so many different license plates.
When this one came out, all I could see were 2 bloody handprints.
One day I finally got close enough to see that it was a "Kids First"plate.
If they would have gone with green or blue paint, I wouldn't have been so bewildered. and creeped out.
Texas in the last year or so went back to white with black lettering. I'm a fan as the various color combos don't always go well with car colors but these seem to just work. I'm just simple in that regard

That looks terrible. That's the reason I'm not a fan of any specialty plates. I think they all suck. Except the legacy plate designs, such as the California yellow on black legacy plates. Those I would actually be tempted to pay for.
