The entire engine blocks are not failing. Read the article.
My next car will be a Kia. Not worried at all.
Exactly. My wife and I are discussing what to get for when she finishes school and goes back to work at the end of the year. So far, the Soul is the leading contender. I was going to buy a Prius or something in that vein, but the $10K less that the Soul would cost pays for a whole bunch of gasoline. Dealers here sell brand-new Souls for $13K.
I would buy a Kia again. I recently sold our Kia which has been a great trouble free vehicle.
Toyota had camshaft breaking on Tundras. All manufacturers have recalls. Sometimes costly ones. Either way it's on a case by case basis. I doubt all engines will be replaced.
I would not be afraid to buy a Kia no matter what some say. In fact when we go looking Kia and Hyundai will be on the top of our list. We're looking at Buick, Volvo Ford and Toyota
A better deal than ever -- still under the 10-year powertrain warranty and you get a brand new engine with zero miles on it.
Actually, no you don't...you get a remanufactured engine if replaced, not a new one. Reman engines usually have a rated life of 50-80% of a new engine depending on the quality of components used in the reman engine.
I known three people who've had Hyundai's or Kia's who've had blown engines all before 40K miles. One of my friends had TWO blown engines in his Sonata. First one at 20K miles and then the second at 45K miles. I told him to ask for the bill of material on the reman engine versus the original engine but Hyundai would not provide it. (To compare parts store get an idea of the quality of the parts used in the reman motors.)
