Also, a car companies don't seem to be redesigning cars as frequently as they used to. I can tell you the difference between a 1976 and 1978 Oldsmobile, but can't identify a 2014 vs 2016 Hyundai.
Ain't that the truth. With today's cookie-cutter toy cars, it's become hard enough just tell a 2016 Hyundai from any other brand, let alone another Hyundai.

I just look at the car emblem and can tell if the car is a Hyundai or Toyota. Not difficult.

You miss the larger point....that the emblem is essentially the only difference.

That's only true if you've lost interest in cars.

Hyundai is only following in the Big 3 German makes: BMW, Audi, and Mercedes.

All their cars are essentially the same design, which is what they are going for.

If you can see only the side of the car, good luck trying to identify it!

Cars are on 3-5 year redesign cycles these days, so no, you may not be able to tell the difference between years within those cycles as they may not make any changes other than available colors for those years.

As I've said before, if you have an interest in an era of cars, you can identify them even by minor details. If you don't, then you can't, and that holds true for ALL eras. *I* can tell the difference between modern cars at a glance, because I read the new car magazines and websites and pay attention. You obviously don't.

But I can't tell the difference at a glance between a '67 and '68 Camaro, as to me, they look the same. Nor can I easily tell at a glance the difference between a '61-62-63-64 Lincoln (I realize that they did get a couple inches longer somewhere in there) though i can tell the difference from '64-65. But '66-69 Lincolns? All look the same to me. Why? Because I don't give a **** about them so didn't bother to learn the minor differences.
