Graduated High school in 1987. A cheerleader in our class had a British sports car. All I remember about the car was that the commercials for this car here in USA showed it driving into a wedge shape, sort of like a triangle with one side longer than the other two and laid down on the long side. It was a way of showing how aerodynamic it was. Believe it was a two seater. Can anyone identify the make and model? Not sure what year she got it, but she made a point of bragging her daddy got it for her brand new so it could t have been older than 1985 nor newer than 1987.
TR7 was not a great car. Under-powered, quality problems, prone to spin. The TR8 got a little more power with a big heavy V8 rRover (Buick) engine, but it added a lot of weight and not that much more HP. Still it was fun to drive, but really liked to spin out. They had some safety issues too, particularly the convertibles. Then the pound changed value and they got really expensive.
ll in all though, a kind of fun car and neat because it was unusual.

At ~308 lbs, the all aluminum Rover V8 actually weighed a mere 20 lbs more the Triumph 4 cyl (~290lbs). And it carried the weight fully behind the front wheel centerline. There's a reason the Rover V8 (nee Buick 215) was used in so many swaps into Little British Cars. That V8 actually weighed LESS than the stock MGB 4 cyl, for example.
My own TR7 I swapped in a Ford 2.8 liter V6 for more power and better weight distribution (it weighed ~300 lbs, but was shorter than the Triumph 4). Fun little car.
I remember the TR-7, my BIL bought one....could never figure out why....he was a big guy...6' 4" and 300 pounds......traded his Jeep CJ for it.
This cheerleader wasn't even 5 feet tall.
