Just about to get off the highway on my way home from work this afternoon. Could see a cop car coming up to pass in the left lane. As I take the ramp off I see it happens to be a Rhode Island State Trooper. LOL. Wonder what he was doing here. I've seen Delaware State Troopers and New Castle County (Delaware) police sort of randomly here in New Jersey on a few occasions. But Rhode Island?! LOL. That's certainly a first.

What's the furthest out of jurisdiction cop car you've ever seen on the roads?

I saw a Tampa, FL police car here in Dallas TX two weeks ago. I've seen various other states from time to time, Oklahoma is fairly common, and to a lesser extent, so are Arkansas and Louisiana.

My guess is they are out of state to pick someone up and take them back to their state for some outstanding warrant/felony.

Canada, in the United States for law enforcement officer funerals.

We have a training site here near where I work, LEO's from all over the state come over in marked cars to do training (driving course, shooting course, realistic "meth lab" setups, etc.).

You guys in the northeast crack me up. We have counties bigger than most of your states around here in PNW. And of course in Texas probably most ranches are bigger than RI.

cop visit other jurisdictions for a variety of reasons, including prisoner transport, back ground checks, training, and many other reasons.

They do a thing up here each year called "Rolling Thunder" on I-85 in Spartanburg County, SC.

Basically, they pull in cops from all over the state to help out and they just pull over MASSIVE numbers of people. Basically looking for drugs more than anything.

Surprise ceremony allows hospitalized dad to see daughter graduate

I've seen cops from Charleston, which is about 200 miles away.. I've seen Clemson Campus Police participating in it. Police cars from all over the state.

I live right on the AL/FL state line, and the FL side is mostly rural, so deputies will often cross into AL to eat lunch.

They have exits on Rt 80 in Wyoming that say "Ranch Exit".

NJ is the most densely populated state in the country.

To the OP, like someone else said, maybe for prisoner transport. or for training purposes.

I saw a Massachusetts State Police car in California. I also saw about 100 other out of state LE vehicles at the same time. Would be nice if they were all attending a conference or something, but sadly, it's usually a funeral for another LEO.

It may be training, prisoner transport, funeral, meetings, investigation or maybe a few other reasons.
