It never goes to the market, either.
It never goes to work.
It performs no mundane tasks.
It exists solely for people to look at.

Wow. The above speaks volumes about your need for external validation. I just need to get from point A to point B.

It's not depreciating, either.

depends on where you live, if you live where crime is high, drivers are stupid, then a plain jane dependable beater is the choice

You can get 85-90% of the high end luxury vehicle by buying a slightly used, very nice, little bit older luxury vehicle that has some bells and whistles. Can nearly achieve the same with a lot less money and without standing out as a target, or having to worry about a hail storm, or someone keying it. Can park it overnight on trips and not worry about it. Kind of like wearing a pair of dockers and a tie v. wearing a nice suit. People don't look at the people in the suit with admiration and respect anymore. It is more with distrust and caution.

eaton, you're responding to a person who doesn't know cars can be fun, and doesn't even GET the CONCEPT of fun. Probably has zero fashion sense, either.

I was just pulling her chain to see if she could grasp the concept of a car that wasn't a "regular" car. Doesn't look like she got it.
It does bring up the possibility of Plan C, though.

Instead of buying a new car, OP could shell out a bunch of money for a really nice car from the past.
Then OP probably has an appreciating asset instead of a depreciating one. They can be a great investment.
If it's a done car and you have garage space, they really don't cost much to keep. They're from a simpler time. Collector insurance is cheap.

My DD is a cheap car that I really don't care much about. It sits outside 7 months out of the year.
When my other car goes to storage (5 months in a secure place cost $160) it gets the garage.

IMO, this looks way better than any BMW they make now.

1991 Honda Accord - I drove this into the mid-2000s. It's the car I became an adult in, and the car where I learned the ropes.

VW 2006 Jetta - Felt noticeably "firmer" and more responsive than Civics and Corollas which is why I went in for it. It was manual and had a sunroof! My first non-beater car.

VW CC 2010 Sport - no better looking car in it's class. And it's manual. Leatherette seating is a very good idea.

VW CC 2014 R-Line - even better more aggressive looking than the sport. It's a beautiful car, and the manual transmission makes up for being a FWD. Only issue with it was no sunroof. This car is sick for the price. I also love the minimalist dashboard, not too many things going on which for reviewers means lacking, but for me it was good to have a dashboard that doesn't look like a plane cockpit.
