I'm having to replace my spare key Fob. I have no idea what happened to it. The replacement cost is $25O at Kia. In older cars before Fobs, many of us use to put the spare key in a small magnetic box and attach to the car somewhere. Now days we can't do that because of the size of these Fobs. We Can't put a spare key in our wallets either. So what do most people do?

For all my cars which require "smart" keys (I guess they all need them these days!) I buy aftermarket blanks and program to work in my autos. I leave the OEM keys at home, as you need both in order to make more working keys from these blanks. Cost is generally around $80 for a programmable key.

Just one example (for my Bolt):

I had one of those magnetic boxes fall off and not be there when I needed it.

Better to secure it in an inconspicuous place with a piece of wire.

Mine is locked up, with all of my important papers, such as the title to the car, in the house.
