'65 Mustang, cost $80. It belonged to my sister, the engine seized and she owed $80 on the loan so that's what I bought it for. Used engine out of a junkyard was $150. This was 1974.
My first car was a family hand-me-down 1972 Maverick that cost $2,100 new. My first new car was a 1981 Mustang 3 door hatchback with T-top, Recaros, and TRX wheels. Sticker was a bit more than $8K. Stripped, they were about $6,500.
My first car was a 1953 Chevy for either $50 or $75 in about 1963. My second car was a 10-year old Ford Fairlane in 1966 for $300.
In 1966 regular Texaco gasoline was $0.28 to $0.32 a gallon which is the same as $2.11 to $2.41 now. Gasoline, certainly in Texas where it is now as low as $1.75, is less now than it was then. (Source: Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis)

1964 Plymouth Fury convertible with a push button automatic shifter, paid $200 in 1969. That thing could smoke tires like crazy!
