First car for me was a 1956 Ford Fairlane, white 2 door. Wish I still had it!

'65 Mustang, cost $80. It belonged to my sister, the engine seized and she owed $80 on the loan so that's what I bought it for. Used engine out of a junkyard was $150. This was 1974.

My first car was a 1953 Chevy for either $50 or $75 in about 1963. My second car was a 10-year old Ford Fairlane in 1966 for $300.

In 1966 regular Texaco gasoline was $0.28 to $0.32 a gallon which is the same as $2.11 to $2.41 now. Gasoline, certainly in Texas where it is now as low as $1.75, is less now than it was then. (Source: Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis)

Things have changed a lot. In 1966 I could afford a 10-year old car while still in high school and working at a service station part time. These days I drive a 20-year old truck having been retired from a professional career.

First one was free. 56 Plymouth. My dad had died and it was given to me. Two speed automatic and brakes that faded on the slightest hill.

1964 Plymouth Fury convertible with a push button automatic shifter, paid $200 in 1969. That thing could smoke tires like crazy!
