Haha, OK.

6 pages of answers.arguments, facts, fantasies, observations and permutations....... totally incredible!

simple answer: Gearing of the average car and limited power output. They are built to put out maximum performance within the realm of legal speeds.

THIS is still running? I already answered it on page one.

Less available power/torque as speed increases and aerodynamic drag that increases with the square of speed means your question is answered.

Less power, more air resistance.

This thread has become a bragging thread. I don't care how wonderful your car is, that it does 0-100 in 10 seconds and 100-200 in three seconds. I don't care.

The only exception is if your car is a rocket. An actual rocket.

He has a fast Vette that runs maybe 9's in quarter? He's posted videos of it.

I have a modified C6 Z06 with a 442 LS7 motor in it.... I compete with it most weekends racing in prep and no-prep events.

It's an optimized car... meaning it wastes no HP, thus is fun and has some quickness to it. But, in reality, it's nothing special.... lot's of cars faster than me at the track.

Not many faster street legal cars though. There are only a handful that do 0-60 in less than 2 seconds, including the record-breaking GTR Omega, which I believe clocks in at 1.68s

You would be surprised how fast they have gotten in the True Street class in primarily no-prep racing, but also prep. I have a lot of friends competing in this class. There cars are street legal and they actually drive them..... some of them 60 ft as quick as 1.1's.... hence have 0-60 mph in around 1.5 seconds. In the 1/4 they run primarily high 7's to low 8's.

My car being only naturally aspirated is non-competitive in that class.... hence I race primarily the 6.50 index class. I have won multiple street-car shootouts in it though.

Here is an 1/8th mile video on the tach and speedo..... followed by a 1/4 mile pass shot by the Royal Purple marketing department. (Ignore the volume on that one... what you're hearing is the car in the other lane)
