It's no secret pilots hate certain airports because of runway issues and safety.

-- Didn't a plane slide off a runway at JFK in New York some years back, in winter at night I believe?
-- A plane in DC, from Reagan International I think, went into the water. The man who jumped in to save people was a modern day hero, even acknowledged in a presidential address.

Logan airport in New York is also right at the water.
I think there's an airport in Asia somewhere that pilots say is a bee-otch at which to take off and fly into because of the runway hazard.

I'll take a ravine any day -- over an ocean at the end of the runway.
Ummm Logan isn't in New York City or even New York State. You're a few hours away. Logan is in Boston.

Default Even Badder Than The Hellcat

I know this Challenger Demon with 840hp and 770 lb-ft will probably be the death of some people also, I hope not. But, those numbers are ridiculous insane. I believe this car comes out later this year, and it will put the Hellcat to shame.

Thanks. Yes. Logan is in Boston, of course.

I trust people got the point of what I was saying about airport near water.

Local Porsche dealer literally throws you the keys to anything on the lot for an unsupervised test drive......as long as it isn't a turbo model!

If you read the mods they did to get the extra 133 HP you would realize that most Hellcat owners probably have already tweaked their stock 707 HP car to get close to Demon numbers. Also consider you need race fuel to get the full 840 HP and 99.999% of people won't be able to put that much power to the ground and will simply reduce the rear tires to dust and wear out a perfectly good clutch in the process!

I'd bet if you grabbed 100 buyers off the street and made them do runs in both the HC and Demon that nobody would actually be faster with the extra HP!

The first Hellcat was also wrecked in Colorado......it was a green one and the guy totaled it 2 hours after taking delivery......in October! Colder temps (makes tires less than sticky), big HP and no experience = ooooops!

FYI, you loose 3% of your horsepower per 1,000ft of elevation. BV is at ~8Kft IIRC. So that 707hp hell cat is only putting out ~500hp. Probably 450 to the wheels and the thing is 4,500lbs

That's only going to run, what?.. high 12's low 13's in the 1/4?

Does the 3% per 1,000 feet rule of thumb apply to forced induction cars? I thought it was more applicable to naturally aspirated vehicles? I'm not arguing, I'd genuinely like to know.

Turbo's are affected, but not as much. Basically, they perform worse off boost, and take longer to build boost.

Super chargers are affected just the same as a NA engine, unless it has a special attitude compensation feature (which is very rare, IIRC the only one I know of were the Mercedes Kompressor superchargers).
