I know that GM trucks still come with front bench seats on some trims but what was the last year and model of sedan and wagon and suv with front bench seats by manufacturer
I also just looked at the specs for a Tahoe LS model (cheapest in the line) and this is what I got...
Front, 40/20/40 split-bench premium cloth seat.
Seating for up to 3 passengers
6-way power driver and 2-way front passenger seat adjuster
Driver and front passenger power lumbar control
Power reclining
Center fold-down armrest with storage
Storage compartments in seat cushion with auxiliary power outlet
Adjustable outboard head restraints
Storage pockets
It is not a full bench, but if the arm rest is in the up position, three people can sit in the front.
The bottom line is that there is no regular standard full bench seat available on any vehicle. The backbone/standard on almost all automobiles and pickup trucks going back to nearly the beginning.
Yes, with the split front seats some can still allow three to sit in front. Just no full bench seat.
All of my pickup trucks going back to the 1970's had single full bench seat. Not available in any today.
I was actually pulled over by a rookie new young local police officer for having 3 sit in front seat of my 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. The car did have split front seat with seat belts for 3. The officer did not know that any car could legally sit 3 in front. No ticket. No warning. No nothing. Except the aggravation of wasting 10 minutes for LEO to do a check on me and my plate. "Have a nice day".
The problem with cars having bench seats, due to the size of sedans and other cars today, is they have shrunk them down to the point that there is no room for 3 passengers in the front seat, and not crowd the driver to the point it would not be safe.
Pickups and large SUVs have the room, needed for a bench seat. So they are available.
