Ok guys and gals heres one for you with the fast cars, such as hot rods, muscle cars old and new, fast exotics, etc... You know, cars that are suppose to be fast.
I drive the same roads to and from work, regardless if I'm in my truck or my Mustang. I see pretty much the same cars each time, each day. I drive the same speeds, make the same turns, take the same exits. I have noticed though, that when I am in my Mustang, that the same people I pass in my truck, tend to speed up and try to,for lack of abetter term, "race" with me, or in some cases let me pass, then speed by me. HAd one guy Friday, who has one of those new Exploreres, that I often pass, ride my tail for 1/2 mile, flashing his lights like he wanted me to race. Ill bet you Monday, Ill pass him, in my truck.
Do any of you guys see this?
I sometimes speed up on a multi lane road when being passed by a car like yours. But I have no delusions of racing with my 13-year-old Vibe. I just like to admire good looking cars and matching speed if I can give me more time to admire. I've also slowed down for the same reason if someone in a cool car is driving slower than I am.
Happens in my camaro all the time. My camaro is just an ss, nothing fancy. Of course in my jeep I try to take off on the fast cars haha. :P
I was driving into St Paul in a snowstorm years back on Hwy 61. All the traffic was lined up in one lane but at the front was a helpless Corvette (in the snow) I pulled up alongside him on the red light in my 4WD pickup and just laughed at him. The only "drag race" I'll ever win against a Corvette LOL.
I figure if someone is trying overly hard to impress me, they dont have anything to be impressed about....
Was in SC driving our s2000 and a rough chevy s10 pulled alongside with the driver yelling thru the window to race him. First off i stopped street racing decades ago, and second even back then I wouldn't have wasted my time. So he "sped" off on his own; it was not impressive.
And when my wife's driving our mustang now she frequently gets cars running along side waiting to race off.
I do have to admit, back in my day it was all muscle, and by sound/feel you could get a decent idea on what a car brought to the table. Now with tuners? I have no clue. Our daughter/son in law have a friend in their car circle with an older flat black civic hatch. See it from the front/side and it doesn't mean much to me. And if it pulled along side me when i was younger i'd have thought "no problem I'll show him"... but the chute on its rear is not for looks lol. Thing runs 9's at upper 150's for mph.
So to be safe, i just say no to them all. I like having a good driving record and good insurance.
