Hi ! My friends want to buy a car under $2000 for traveling
, what advice you will give, what can be reliable for 10k miles ? Thank you
guys, please with no trolling
P.S. there some ideas from craiglist:
mercury sable 2000 / buick century 2003 / honda Odyssey 2002 / isuzu 1998
Mercury Grand Marquis 1999 / Chrysler Sebring 2003 / Ford Taurus 2006 / Pontiac ... ?
what car from this list most reliable for long trip ? Or ...toyota camry but not to much good for this price
I recommend Toyota or Honda. there is a lot of used cars for the price that you specified. The cars are very reliable. The main thing to check well before buying. As for the purchase: I can recommend a car dealership where you will not be deceived. By the way, they can order a car from the auction, which will be much cheaper for you. So you can even buy Toyota Camry. As for Ford explorer, I would not recommend buying...from my personal experience...Good luck with your travel!

Out of that list, I would probably go with the Honda Odyssey. For $2k, you could probably find an older Corolla, but Camrys in good shape are hard to find for $2k.
When I first sold cars they were Fords and I was not impressed with the Mercury's and Taurus. They just didn't seem to hold up very well in the long run and I think the years you mentioned would be well on their way to the sunset.
I also worked for a GM dealer and I was impressed with the Buick Centuries with the 3800 engine that was also used in many Pontiacs. The Centuries were rather basic cars without too many fancy electronics. The Pontiacs had more gizmos that seemed to stop working over the long haul. I don't like Dodge Chryslers but I'm sure they have their fans here.
I don't have any experience with Hondas but we had a 05 Toyota Forerunner that we traded in with 140000 miles last year and it had some typical problems that a GM SUV would but overall it was a good vehicle. I have only driven a new in 2016 Camry and it was pretty nice.
Choose carefully and have a mechanic you trust check the car out and it wouldn't hurt to sign up for AAA before the trip.
EDIT, the Century came with a 3.1 liter engine not the 3.8 that was in the Buick Regal and Pontiacs. The 3.1 in the Century was a very reliable engine as well.

Hi ! My friends want to buy a car under $2000 for traveling,
what advice you will give, what can be reliable for 10k miles ?
At that price level the brand and model is almost immaterial. You're looking for a well cared for,
well maintained, survivor of years and (likely) multiple owners.
But even at that price you need to EXPECT that anything worth buying will still need something
that's obvious (Tires? Brakes? Clutch?) and something else you won't see. For these reasons
whatever your budget might be you need to set aside a portion for that work to be done.
thanks guys. what about buick century is it reliable or it is sketchy, many people talk about that super reliable long life car ?
Ive heard good things about the series 3800 engines. Not sure about the transmissions in those cars but I do see a good number of them still running.
Taurus with the 3.0 OHV vulcan or 3.0 duratec is good as well. My brother ran a 2002 to 275k miles before the reverse on the trans went out and "totaled" the car. 3.0 OHV is gutless as hell but is certainly adequate, id prefer the 200 HP duratec though.
If you want an SUV any 4.0 OHV explorer or 5.0 explorer (RWD or AWD) will be reliable. The most reliable explorer would be a 96-01 5.0 RWD. They have heavy duty truck transmissions and are decently capable vehicles. Can do some towing, AWD is a monster in the snow, most (5.0 trucks) have LSD rear axles. Only downside is terrible MPG. You'd be super lucky to get 18-20 MPG highway.
Any car for $2000 is going to have its own laundry list of problems, so id recommend you look over the car with a fine toothed comb. you dont want to buy something and have to immediately spend $500 to make it road worthy.
