There is a tread in the current events section of CD regardling two toddlers in two different states who both died from injuries caused by power windows. People were mentioning an auto reverse feature (which I wasn't aware of so I looked in up and found the link below

https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...y-feature-work

So I was wondering is this feature standard (and is it mandated) on any window with the express up feature and has it always been present??? Is it also required on pickups and SUVs?

Has anyone here tested it in their vehicle to see that it works or had an experience that triggered it?

My 2014 F150 has it. That's the only vehicle we've had with express close. And yes, it works. I installed in-channel vent shields which will trigger it on occasion.

I absolutely hate the "express up and down" feature. I think it's more distracting then without the feature. I hate trying to crack it open and the stupid thing goes all the way down by itself. However, my hatred of it is not the topic. Our van has them, and, yes, when something blocks it from going up, it will automatically go down again.

The feature is common to foreign cars per the following link from 2004.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/archi...=.f7834b81caf5

But it looks like American vehicle manufacturers didn't jump on the bandwagon until some time after 2004.

Quote:
safety advocates say any such deaths are unnecessary because they are readily preventable. The problem is primarily with U.S.-made cars sold in the U.S. market, which traditionally have used "rocker" or toggle-style switches that can cause power windows to close inadvertently if someone leans on the switch.
NHTSA dragged their feet while they knew that other nations had already mandated it.

I find it a hassle as well, but it would apparently be asking alot of buyers in this market to operate a switch for a full 5 seconds...now we get to spend 15 seconds fiddling with it to find the desired position.

Well, a lot of foreign vehicles have a switch by the drivers side that disables the rear window switches. That should be sufficient, I would think. In this case the dog, or the kids can't lower nor raise the windows.

Can you imagine if you want to close the window to avoid getting mugged in the inner city, and the darn thing can't be closed when the bad guy already has his arm inside the vehicle?

Not just foreign vehicles have that lock out switch. I've had power windows since 1979 and every car had it.
