Didn't work for me. I was coming out of Cleveland years ago, and the cops were standing in the middle of the 4 lane, pulling everyone in a group of about 10 cars over. I felt safe moving along with other cars, but the Ohio State Police saw it differently. They took us right to a Magistrate, where we had to pay our fines on the spot or be arrested.

I am on the NYS Thruway between the NJ border and Albany. As I said, traffic moves at 75 plus. The troopers routinely travel well beyond the speed limit in the fast lane with their radars on. The Valentine picks them up pretty quickly. I do not think I have ever seen a trooper with a laser in the winter.

I want to know 2 things,

1. What kind of car were you driving?
2. What kind of 18 wheeler were you following that could go fast enough to make YOUR rev limiter kick in?

I find that in the big cities, most LEO use laser. With laser, by the time you get the warning, it's too late. But I don't speed much in cities, and stay very aware of my surroundings.

I do a lot of highway driving, and most LEO is radar. A good detector can spot radar a mile ahead, well before it spots you. Between the detector, and smart/safe driving, I haven't had a ticket in decades. As Katana49 says, if you stay vigilant & aware, and use a detector in an intelligent manner, with a little luck you'll be okay.

Haters--please don't tell me to drive the speed limit. In a safe car, with a high degree of situational awareness, our speed limits are artificially low. For example--65MPH on a 3 lane new highway with almost no traffic? That's what the newly opened 290 outside of 99 is set at. If it wasn't for outdated EPA restrictions, that would have a 75MPH limit. I'm not advocating unsafe limits, just reasonable ones.
People who talk about the technology and how safe a driver THEY are are missing one of the most important aspects of safe driving - the vehicles and capabilities of the other drivers that they of necessity share the roads with. Understand that it is NOT all about you and what an awesome driver you are and what an awesome car you have - you are sharing YOUR road with everyone else and anyone who justifies speeding or higher limits based on what a great driver they think they are has shown what a great driver they AREN'T. The professional race drivers that I was taught to drive by WERE awesome drivers, had proven it on the track and at the Salt Flats, and drove extremely conservatively on the roads because they KNEW they were better than 95% of the drivers on the roads (including those that deemed themselves great drivers), and that as professionals they were responsible for taking that into consideration. (I know, a word that is not in esteem these days, responsibility.) So your excuse doesn't wash.

As I mentioned in my post.. That doesn't work. I was driving in VA without it being powered up.. Without the cord even attached to it.. Still got the ticket. Being a $25 ticket at the time (as someone else mentioned, price has gone up) it wasn't even worth attempting to fight.

Just did a road trip and used an Escort radar detector. It still works great if LEO are using KA radar, it detects them about a mile away which is plenty of time to reduce your speed and avoid a ticket.

When a group of cars are speeding, I've found that cops in patrol cars almost always pull over the first guy in the line. Everybody else slows down immediately, of course. After the patrol cop is done with the first guy, some cops will come blazing back up and pull over the second guy, etc.

By then I've taken the next exit.

I've never gotten a ticket while using that method.

I noticed just the opposite. Cop is sitting on the side of the road, there comes a group of speeding cars, he chases them and pulls over the last car of that group.
Often a second (and even third) cop is sitting a mile or two down the road ( just when you think you can speed again) and he also will pull over the next last car of the group...

The cops have roll down a window or stand outside their vehicle to use laser. Not much fun in the winter.

I still use a CB in my car with great success.
