People who talk about the technology and how safe a driver THEY are are missing one of the most important aspects of safe driving - the vehicles and capabilities of the other drivers that they of necessity share the roads with. Understand that it is NOT all about you and what an awesome driver you are and what an awesome car you have - you are sharing YOUR road with everyone else and anyone who justifies speeding or higher limits based on what a great driver they think they are has shown what a great driver they AREN'T. <snip> So your excuse doesn't wash.
You are absolutely correct. And if you actually read my post, I covered that...

Situational awareness means being aware of your surroundings, and everything that affects it. That means being attuned to fellow drivers, and what they might do, no matter how stupid.
So my reasoning, not my "excuse", is exactly what I meant it to say.
If your police is using LEDAR don't bother with any detectors. This is why I discontinued mine when I moved back to WA.
Also, when police catches you with RD, it pisses them off. As it was said, it's like catching arsonist with match box in his pocket. means you were intending to speed.

The professional race drivers that I was taught to drive by WERE awesome drivers, had proven it on the track and at the Salt Flats, and drove extremely conservatively on the roads because they KNEW they were better than 95% of the drivers on the roads (including those that deemed themselves great drivers), and that as professionals they were responsible for taking that into consideration. (I know, a word that is not in esteem these days, responsibility.) So your excuse doesn't wash.
It really does not take a lot of skill or a special car to drive fast on a flat straight empty freeway.
How many of you guys use radar detector on high ways and long road trips? is it worth the money?
I used to use one a number of years ago but I stopped. I was getting a lot of false alarms and it was annoying, constantly having to be on edge and slow down only to find that there was no enforcement.
I can't say if the radar detector ever actually "saved" me. There's no way to know that for sure. What indo know is that in the 20 or so years that I have not been using a radar detector, I have only gotten 2 speeding tickets, one with radar and one with lidar. I don't think it would have been worth the annoyance of using a radar detector all that time just to avoid those two tickets. And in the case of the lidar ticket, a radar detector probably wouldn't have helped me.
For a person who drives a lot of highway miles, it might be worth it to get a radar detector. But it's definitely not worth it for me. I can handle a speeding ticket on occasion and would rather run that risk than be annoyed by using a radar detector. It took the fun out of driving for me.
First rule is to not drive like a maniac regardless of what app or gadget you use. Speed limit on the highway here is 55 so I drive at 65-67. Once you go over 15, you’ll easily get pulled over.
I use the Waze app. It marks visible cops, cars that are pulled over to the side, traffic, pot holes, speed cameras, objects on the road, etc.
