I don't think that the sedan will die. There are too many people who enjoy them.

I have never owned one or found any use for one, though. A real truck based SUV is useful in its own regard and no sedan is as fun to drive as my hard top convertible.

I love my endangered Impala. Drove flawlessly tonight in sleek comfort and style. Didn't need anything beyond it.

I love that version of the 7 series.

I drive an S550 for the same reasons as you.
You and I are very much alike. I like to keep a convertible on hand too. I just sold my e46 and am picking an E63 soon.

The idea that the wealthy are switching to pickup trucks is laughable. The wealthy have no use for pickup trucks--a farm/labor vehicle. A few of the wealthy are buying Teslas, others are buying prestige vehicles, many of which are sedans or coupes. The Prius is popular, and most of those are sedans. Sedans will be around for quite awhile.

Bugatti Chiron, anyone?

Now, THERE is a car! (Keep your clunky SUV's, boys. I've moved on up. )

What would ya do with it? *LOL* As the guys from Top Gear found out world had changed much since the 1960's or even 1980's. As in London if you drive that behemoth into Manhattan, NYC better top up before getting into town, as we've only a handful of petrol stations left.

For my money would want that horn! You can wake the dead with that thing; sort of like the one from SS United States.

Since were careering off into "wish land"; here's mine:

Now, THERE is a car!

Not to put a fine point upon it when you get down to it Range/Land Rover was meant for getting round the British countryside, by farmers yes, well off ones, but never the less.

All over Fairfield CT you've scores of Land Rovers being driven by petite cute blondes for nothing more than running kids to school/about town, and or whatever else they do to occupy their days. A mini-van or station wagon would certainly suffice.

The typical crossover is little more than a sedan with a hatchback. It's the new millennium's station wagon dropped onto the typical sedan platform. The sedan will never die. As usual, they will wane in popularity for a while until consumer trends come full circle. The same thing happened when mini-vans were all the rage in the 90s.

In our part of the country, I go to any parking lot and see that 3/4ths to sometimes all vehicles are 4 door Pickups, SUVs, and Crossovers. All 4 wheel drive or AWD. Sedans have been dying here for years. That is a fact, when you get away from the coasts and out into the real America.

And article after article tell us that the Wealthy are moving to pickup trucks.

My wife and I have driven SUVs and Pickups since the 70s. Currently we have a Ford F-150 and a Ford Explorer Limited.

The sedans have been getting smaller for years, and the roofs have lowered. Today I can't even sit up in or drive the typical sedan today, they are so low roofed, and small. Long live the Pickups and SUVs as they now rule the auto world in the USA.

All true but on the other had, if we had another gas crisis, sedans would be back in demand.

I drive a Charger Hellcat and there's no other vehicle that I would rather drive...to be fair, I'm very tall and can't properly fit in a sports car. SUV's and trucks are nice if you need their functionality but when you don't need it, just a waste of weight, energy, and too bulky to handle well. Wife drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I like it when I'm not in a hurry.

Well, I like the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and those were only available as a four-door sedan. They were a little longer than the DeVille series. My '69 has classic '60s styling, easy driving, roomy interior with 6-passenger capability, a large trunk and a smooth ride.

And I also like the Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five series, both the 9-passenger sedan and limousine.

Here is my '76. Not available as a four-door, of course. A majestic and regal luxury car, all 21 feet of it. An incredibly smooth ride and an apartment-sized rear compartment. Super-smooth 500-cu-in engine. Always fun to drive this car, which is driven about 2-3 times per month.
