Automobile repair cost calculator

Have you ever used the Automobile repair cost calculators on the net. Napa has one I found through a Google search and there are a number of others as well. If you are going to keep a car long term it will help with decisions to be make along the way concerning upkeep costs. I do my own work and I use it to get a good estimate of how much time the a particular job should take. Is there any special tools you use that makes automotive ownership easier for you.

Yeah. I bought a lift to make working on cars easier. This weekend I did the following on my wife’s car. This would normally take 6-7 hours doing it to n a typical garage floor. It took me about 4 hours and that was because I diddly bopped around checking under the car.
Bilstein strut replacement
Steering tie rod ends
Brake pads and rotors
Oil change.
Tire rotation

I also threw my other car on the rack and looked under it. All comfortable and safe. I do 99% of my own work. About the only thing I won’t do is a transmission rebuild. And that’s only because I don’t know how to rebuild a transmission.

Ditto on the lift being comfortable and safe. That puts you on the edge of commercial. The lift will certainly pay for itself over the long run plus you have the safety factor which is invaluable. That lift may end up becoming a huge commercial venture before you know it. Good luck.
