What does your turn signal mean:

-OUTTA THE WAY! I'M COMING THROUGH!
-I'm using this signal to inform you that I'd like over.

After being cut off several times this morning by people that (almost literally) cut in front of me with/without turn signals...... I'm just curious. To me, I use my turn signal to let everyone know what I'd like to do.

More and more, I see that it nows means that I have to move out of their way, lest be in an accident.

For the most part, I use mine the same way you do. While on the road, I usually get over a mile or more before my turn so I have plenty of time to get over. It's extremely rare that I have to force my way over into another lane.

Well, here in Hampton Roads, the use of the signal usually means "I'm from out of state".

I understand that sentiment. It follows along with "In Hampton Roads, the speed limit is only a suggestion."

Though, I tend to use my turn signal. And only go 5mph over on roadway and 10-15mph over on the interstate....

I use mine if I feel like it. Usually when someone is behind me, waiting to turn in front of me, or if an officer is around. I have to admit I don't use mine as much as I should.

It depends on where I am. In most places my turn signal means to me, "pardon me, mind if I move over? Thanks." Unfortunately, on the expressways around here, others interpret my turn signal as me saying, "step on the accelerator and try to fill the gap between you and the car in front of you before I slide in." Therefore, to me my turn signal means "I'm moving into this lane and if you try to box me out I'll f*#&ing NASCAR you into the next lane, because frankly my car is worth crap and I don't care if it gets dented up, and I doubt you're so cavalier about your precious Lexus or BMW."

To me, a turn signal indicates a request to change lanes or a notice that I'm turning at the next intersection or getting off at the next exit. But I usually assume that, from other drivers, it's "Look out; I'm coming over NOW". I especially hate it when another trucker turns his turn signal on before his tractor is clear of my tractor, then dives in front of me when his trailer is less than a car-length ahead. Especially late at night when traffic is light. I can definitely agree with your other thoughts, everyone! How 'bout when you're coming off of a side road and the ONLY break you've seen in a while is in front of some moron who turns right in front of you without using his turn signal and after a "stomp the brakes" type of slow-down so you couldn't even guess his intentions!!!

I'm thinking the "OUTTA THE WAY!" people don't bother using turn signals.
